"Rediscovering Play"

“I'm convinced that quality outdoor naked time is the secret to health and longevity.”Kaya McLaren
Church of the Dog, Page: 35

No, I am not suggesting that we all run naked through the streets. The world we currently live in is far too grown-up for that! It makes me think, though, or reminisce about the days when it was ok to run naked through a sprinkler…cover each other with silly string…or paint with our fingers…

The world isn’t like that anymore – sadly, even for our children.

In a world that is now moving faster than we can possible keep up with, playing dress-up has become serious business. It is difficult to know who to be, or who we are.

Plato once said, “You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation.”

Who were you, before you were aware that someone was watching you? What captured your attention so much that everything else magically disappeared? When was the last time you played like that?

Maybe it’s time to pull out the sandbox, the play dough and the finger paints. Perhaps it is not true that we need to keep up, but it is the world that needs to slow down and stop taking itself so seriously!

Take a moment to ask ~ how did life get so serious? Come on, we all have those days! Today is the first day of the rest of your life! Wake up, rediscover your Magical Mysterious Self and claim a little piece of happiness!

The Mind Body Connection - By Hanne Born

One of the most recent studies on psychosomatic cancer therapy comes from Germany.

Over the past ten years, medical doctor and cancer surgeon Ryke-Geerd Hamer has examined 20,000 cancer patients with all types of cancer. Dr. Hamer wondered why cancer never seems to systematically spread directly from one organ to the surrounding tissue. For example, he never found cancer of the cervix AND cancer of the uterus in the same woman.

He also noticed that all his cancer patients seemed to have something in common: there had been some kind of psycho emotional conflict prior to the onset of their disease, a conflict that had never been fully resolved. After having examined 20,000 cancer patients with all types of cancer, Dr. Hamer has come up with some revolutionary information.

X-rays taken of the brain by Dr. Hamer showed in all cases a ‘dark shadow’ somewhere in the brain. These dark spots would be in exactly the same place in the brain for the same types of cancer. There was also a 100% correlation between the dark spot in the brain, the location of the cancer in the body and the specific type of unresolved conflict.

On the basis of these findings, Dr. Hamer suggests that when we are in a stressful conflict that is not resolved, the emotional reflex center in the brain which corresponds to the experienced emotion (e.g : anger, frustration, grief) will slowly break down. Each of these emotion centers are connected to a specific organ. When a center breaks down, it will start sending wrong information to the organ it controls, resulting in the formation of deformed cells in the tissues: cancer cells.

He also suggests that metastases are not the SAME cancer spreading. It is the result of new conflicts that may well be brought on by the very stress of having cancer or of invasive and painful or nauseating therapies.

Dr. Hamer started including psychosomatic therapy as an important part of the healing process and found that when the specific conflict was resolved, the cancer immediately stopped growing at a cellular level. The dark spot in the brain started to disappear.

X-rays of the brain now showed a healing edema around the damaged emotional center as the brain tissue began to repair the afflicted point. There was once again normal communication between brain and body. A similar healing edema could also be seen around the now inactive cancer tissue. Eventually, the cancer would become encapsulated, discharged or dealt with by the natural action of the body. Diseased tissue would disappear and normal tissue would then again appear.

"All your Issues are in your Tissues"

Recent research in Germany, Austria, France, the US and Denmark has confirmed Dr. Hamer's findings; that emotional conflicts create cancer, and solving the conflicts in question stops the cancer growth.

Dr. Hamer believes that cancer people are unable to share their thoughts, emotions, fears and joys with other people. He calls this "psycho-emotional isolation". These people tend to hide away sadness and grief behind a brave face, appear ‘nice’ and avoid open conflict. Some are not even aware of their emotions, and are therefore not only isolated from other people, but also from themselves.

If we live our life in emotional isolation, our emotional centers will be under constant stress. If we then add a major conflict which we are not able to resolve, and which we may not even be quite conscious of, then the emotional centers of our brain are in danger of breaking down.

We all experience "emotional-isolation", more or less. We live in a society where we want to interact with other people in a way we have been brought up to regard as considerate. There are limits to what we feel we can say and do. We often even censor what we allow ourselves to think and feel.

Having to change these lifestyle facts does not necessarily mean that we need to go out and hit our neighbor or cry in front of our friends. It is a question of how we can change our emotional patterns without creating even greater conflicts for ourselves.

It can take time to make even small changes in our habits. The important thing is that we can start healing from the moment we have understanding of our emotional conflicts so we can start acting, even if this action is merely to start talking to somebody—a friend, a partner or a professional. In this way, we break the loneliness of our isolation, and the pressure is taken off the emotional centers in our brain.

Cancer patients who choose psychosomatic therapy—whether professionally or with a good friend—are different from most other patients. They are not 'just' being treated by others, but play an active part in resolving how and why the disease occurred. The word 'patient' becomes redundant, and they enter into active co-treatment of themselves.

It is not a question of trying to follow some ideal way of living, based on other people's experiences. Each one of us must find our OWN solution—a lifestyle that works for US. We become sick in OUR OWN WAY –and we must HEAL in our own way."

Close to three percent of marriages end within three years (according to Statistics Canada). What does that look like in real numbers? Well, more than 75,000 couples divorced in Canada in 2006, despite having said, “Until death do us part”! So, why get married?

While scientists report that married men tend to live longer than their single friends, historically, the preference for a secure, monogamous relationship has been attributed to women. Men, on the other hand, have often argued that they are biologically predisposed to spread their seed to the many.

As a human, I am as afraid of commitment as anyone else on this planet. Yet, underlying these varied perspectives is an energetic pull to shift something…to promote a paradigm that can hold the space for honest engagement between the sexes. The question is…for this to occur within our “institution” of marriage, what needs to change?

1. Acceptance of our differences as men and women is a good place to start. This is to say that each person has his or her own unique ratio of masculine (or active/doing) energy and feminine (or receptive/nurturing) energy. More importantly, this ratio is constantly changing! So, to assume that all women hope for marriage and all men want to stay single is to dishonor both sexes. Can we shift out of the masculine/feminine projected archetypes and see the “humanness” of each other?

2. Flexibility in our beliefs about what we need for ourselves and from our partners offers us the fluidity in relationship that is needed to bend a little in the winds of change. When we make the choice to live the rest of our lives together and speak our vows in marriage, how aware are we that our life together will be a fluid dance between autonomy and intimacy? Can we revisit and renegotiate our agreements with each other in relationship when change demands it? How willing are we to live that truth in our commitment to each other, even if it means letting go?

3. Clarity about what we need for our own unique spirit to grow will keep us from the bonds of attachment that make us give our power away. In the more difficult moments, are we willing to ask, “Whose stuff is this?” Are we able to walk our own journey? Do we have the clarity to sustain our individuality within relationship?

4. Courage to speak our truth with bottom-line emotional honesty ensures that we always have the best chance of understanding each other and being heard. Without it, we risk losing ourselves in the truth of another. Are we able to look deep within and first be honest with ourselves…about our weaknesses and our strengths? Then, do we have the courage to speak the unspeakable when the energy needs to shift, even if it means risking everything?

5. Maturity to have worked out and worked out again our bottom-line principles. If we know in advance what we will stick around for and what will surely make us leave, we are in a better position to create honest vows that we are willing and able to keep. Do we have the maturity to acknowledge that we never stop learning and do we know that our values and principles are excellent guidelines, but are not written in stone? Do we have the grace to shift in the face of challenge, when doing so will allow us not only to grow together, but also to grow on our own?

6. Playing with each other in the difficult moments allows us to break the energy of seriousness. Do we have the wisdom to laugh at ourselves…to not take ourselves or life too seriously when the energy threatens to break us apart?

We have come a long way from our naivety…believing that somehow love conquers all. This is not the same world and those who are willing to make an honest commitment to each other are more compelled to seek a clear understanding of what it is that they are signing up for. “What does it mean to speak these vows?”

Simply put, life is change. Every ending is a new beginning. This is the way of transformation and all we can ever really commit to honestly is…to hold the space for each other to grow…and to speak our truth when holding that space goes beyond where we are in our own evolution. Marriage, in this sense, is certainly a commitment to step into the unknown together and play in that energy as long as we can. It is also about loving ourselves and each other enough to speak from our heart, heal together, walk our own path and even step aside, when it is necessary, to support each other’s dream (a beautiful and challenging journey). May you have the courage and wisdom to see what is needed along your journey together and the strength to bend a little in the winds of change.

Law of Attraction

I get the basic concept, but what really are the key elements to the Law of Attraction?

If I had to choose a single crucial factor relating to our ability to attract what we want in life, it would be the presence of courage. At least that is so for most of us.

For those of us who have seen or read “The Secret” and had opportunity to work with the three basic steps...ASK...BELIEVE...and RECEIVE, it may be acutely within our awareness how difficult it can be to make our journey that simple.

What if I told you that we all have the ability to know, without knowing how we know? A woman knows things in her womb. A man has a “gut feeling”.
If we allow ourselves to trust that way of knowing and are willing to tell ourselves the truth about what “just is”, there is actually nothing standing between us and what we wish to attract. What courage it would take to see with that level of awareness!

Let’s take a closer look at those three basic steps.

Ask – Do you really “know” what you want? I once coached someone who wanted ten million dollars. He wrote himself a cheque, dated it and posted it on his door so he could see it every day. He worked through the three steps, as he understood them, and was frustrated that he could not manifest the money. I asked him why he wanted the money and it turned out that he really wanted freedom. What do you really want?

Believe – Do you have the courage to see through the filter of your past experiences enough to tell yourself the truth about what is possible? Can you see the true measure of your worth, at least some of the time? We are taught to see our limitations and often forget the times when we are able to stretch ourselves and create something greater. Can you believe that what you want can come to you in ways you were unable to imagine before?

Receive - Are you able to put aside what you are sure you know, in order to empty your cup and make room for a new possibility? What story needs to be rewritten in order for you to let go of what stands in your way?

It takes a lot of courage in our world to see how powerful we really are. It’s your journey...a blank page is before you...What happens next?

An Open Heart

I always end up in relationships that are going nowhere. Why is there no one out there for me!

You’re not alone. This is, perhaps, the most commonly asked question among those who have yet to find that special someone. You might begin by asking yourself these important questions:

What are you looking for?
Most people have no idea what they are looking for and, therefore, unintentionally end up in the same co-dependent patterns that haven’t worked for them in the past. Our prototype for relationship comes mostly from our primary image-makers (the mother/father figures in our lives). The more consciously aware we are of the patterns contained within that prototype and what does or doesn’t work for us, the more we are able to create co-empowered relationships.

The tell-tale sign of a co-dependent relationship is “need”. The more comfortable you are in your own skin, the less you need someone else to “complete” you or reinforce what you already believe.

Look at the common thread in all of your past relationships. What co-dependent patterns were continually reinforced? Where did those patterns originate? What needs to change?

What do you believe?
Let’s take a look at the statement, “There is no one out there for me.” This belief could be your greatest barrier. These are the words of someone who has stopped seeing opportunities to connect.

Our thoughts and beliefs are powerful tools that are used either consciously or unintentionally to create our present circumstances. If we believe that there is no suitable partner for us, we will see all opportunities for connection through the filter of judgment and create a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Fear-based beliefs create closed symbols that stop us from living life and actually limit our choices. In this case, connecting to others on an intimate level may have become a closed symbol for you. Tell yourself the truth about what you believe. You have not met everyone and, therefore, it is not possible to honestly say that there is no one out there for you.

We all hold some beliefs that are fear-based. Your belief may be acting as a buffer, protecting you from the possibility of feeling pain. This buffer also protects you from feeling love and finding what you’re looking for.

To open this closed symbol, it is necessary to risk opening your heart and feeling fully.

Affected by the Recession?

Have you been negatively affected by the recession? What are your beliefs about wealth? Do you feel limited in your ability to create the life you really want?

What if I told you that your ability to create wealth (regardless of what that means to you) is ultimately within your control? Even in a recession!

As children, we believe anything is possible - After all, the world really does revolve around us! Throughout the rest of our lives, we are surrounded with messages that limit our beliefs about abundance. Perhaps some of these statements are familiar to you...

"Dont be greedy! There isn't enough...!"

What we were really hearing was that the world is not abundant. This fear-based belief is deeply engrained in most of us and occupies our mind more often than we would like to admit. In fact, it is that same belief that created the recession in the first place! Energetically, it keeps us feeling separate and powerless.

The truth is, the universe is abundant and the only thing keeping us from having what we want is us!

Think about it for a moment. What would your life be like if you could quiet your mind? What if you believed you could create a life that really feeds you?

You CAN have...better relationships; greater abundance; increased vitality and an overall feeling of wellness!

Worried about the recession? Be part of the solution and invest in yourself in the process! Call and book your free 1/2 hour today!

Want to slow down the aging process?

I heard that living an active lifestyle can slow down the aging process. At my age, where do I find the energy to be active?

What if I told you that you could have more energy at the end of the day than when you started?

The #1 cause of premature aging is not stress, not genetics...but the “failure to thrive!”

Most of us can look at a fig tree and see when it is not thriving. Its leaves are falling, its branches are thin and its soil is dry. It will survive for some time in that state before it finally dies. We can look at that fig tree and know that food and sunlight will give it new life – yet, in our own lives, we are often grateful to have just enough energy to make it through the day.

Thriving is a “creation” energy. It is about creating new life. To do this, we must determine what choices feed us and design our life around those choices.

To be clear, some things we do give us energy (or feed us) and some things (like getting angry) take energy and offer nothing in return. So, it is really a matter of where you spend your energy and what return you get on your investment! If it doesn’t feed you, don’t do it!

After all, you wouldn’t invest your money in a business venture that leaves you broke at the end of the day. Nor would you gamble on a relationship that was sure to leave you wanting. So, why do that with your energy?

Most of us can think of a handful of activities that leave us feeling “jazzed” - and twice as many reasons why we can’t do them. The key here is to increase your options. Ask yourself: what kinds of activities will feed your heart, your physical body, your spirit, your intellect? What makes you feel alive? How do you feed your desire for self-expression and creativity? Are your leaves falling? When was the last time you played?

Want to slow down the aging process? It isn’t about “finding the energy” to be active. It is about actively creating the energy.

Go ahead, live the life you want! Every cell in your body will thank you!
